He says he will give them vouchers.
Then goes on to speak about low income this and that...and how he will help them with this.

The NAACP?

Is that kinda like a presumptive insult?
Am I nit picking cause I dont wanna not pick

But saying..I know you all are poor and im here to help get your kids vouchers to private schools....thats bad all by itself.

Uplift the poor communities maybe? Improve the public school systems maybe? Rewardd enthusiastic teachers so they remain enthusiastic..maybe? Help bring the country money by ending the war so that we can invest this money into NOT having poor folks in the richest country in the world? maybe?

I think Obama said these things..I think he vowed to Edwards to help end poverty in our country. He also is going to help give people money for a COLLEGE EDUCATION...in exchange for WORKING TO BETTER THE UNITED STATES...kinda like a cycle of goodness. He also wants to reward the teachers with pay based on WORK THEY DO instead of length of time in being a teacher. He also wants people to BE ACCOUNTABLE TO THIER KIDS...less tv and more attnetion.

Gawd I dont know what mccain was thinking speaking to the NAACP like they wanted to hear that a handout would help them...make them be happy and keep moving..kinda like a gas tax holiday. Am I nit picking or is that an insult to intelligence...an insult to the needs of the black community or any other community?

Tanya, you said, "Gawd I dont know what mccain was thinking speaking to the NAACP like they wanted to hear that a handout would help them...make them be happy and keep moving..kinda like a gas tax holiday. It was an insult to ALL thinking people! I'm sick of all the rhetoric back and forth with absolutely no substance to back it up. The RNC had no concept of transformative learning...that's the reason they never change.

Great job, Tanya!

You are exactly right with your observations. Remember that the Republican Party is the party of the rich. Without the poor, there can be no rich. They don't want to help anyone improve thier lives.

And it does seem to have worked in the past that they could give a handout here, a handout there, and it appeared that they cared. The underprivileged were thankful for what they got, and no rich folks lost anything in the process.

But that's ancient history. People are much smarter nowadays, but the Republicans are living in the past. As we saw from the gas tax relief joke, most people are too smart to be, as Barack said, "bamboozled", these days.

The voucher system is another way to try and make poorer folks think the rich are helping, when in fact, only the rich are benefiting. The vouchers would go to only the neighborhoods with the worst schools, leaving those students at bad, but not as bad, schools with no help at all.

And, no private school will be forced accept ANYONE who has a voucher. They will all still have the right to turn any student away, based on academics, or behavioral issues. Chances are, many students with vouchers WON'T be changing schools because no other school will take them.

Now I know that there are plenty of students in lower income communities who achieve great things academically despite going to an inadequately staffed, poorly supplied school. But they are the exception. And the idea of the voucher system is to keep it that way.

How many students in public schools in the poorest neighborhoods are actually gonna qualify for the the high standards at most private schools when there are no good teachers, supplies are outdated or in short supply, and the whole public school system is in shambles?

So- by the Republican thinking- nothing really changes. The underprivileged think they're getting help. And the status quo stays the same.

This is another indication that McCain would be a horrible choice for president. Under him, the rich would get richer, the poor would get poorer, the war would go on and on, homelessness and unemployment would increase. And John and Cindy McCain, the multi-billionaires who just aided in the sale of yet another American company to foreign investors, would just sit at home on their big pile of money and laugh.
